2022 was easily the biggest year of my life. My ~boyfriend~ and I bought our first house in Grand Rapids, MI and painted so much that I was sometimes seeing my chiropractor 2x a week. Then we got engaged! I then planned a wedding in North Carolina remotely from Michigan by myself in 5 months with no wedding planner, florist, or rental company. And to the shock of everyone, everything went (near) perfectly.
At the end of this very exhausting year, I found myself without a million projects begging for my attention at all hours of the day. I spent several weeks being lazy and catching up on some much needed rest. But once I found myself back to a somewhat normal life, I found myself gravitating back to what I have always, and I mean always, loved doing.
I knew I would be getting my wedding photos in RAW format and wanted to do as much research as possible about how to achieve the look I was after, because honestly, editing was probably in my top 2 reasons why I quit photography after spending a whole year second-shooting weddings way back when. Once I started really figuring out how to edit in a style that speaks to me (& I know it’s not for everyone), I knocked some rust off my manual shooting techniques and started shooting as often as I could. My first real attempt at a creative photoshoot was ironically with a flash, which if you know, you know. The technicalities of this shoot were nowhere near perfect, but at the end of the day when I see these photos, I think about how the five of us screamed and laughed and blared Taylor Swift while my husband somehow laid on the couch and solidly slept through it all. (I think he’s…ready for teenagers?)
Watching these girls grow up has been one of the great joys of my life.
Here are some of my favorite photos from this day, shot January 01, 2023, and officially marking the launch of Brons Imagery.
Alexis Brons is a lifestyle, wedding, and creative portrait photographer based in Grand Rapids, MI with a vintage, film-inspired editing style that makes her candid images look and feel timeless.
