A couple weeks after our wedding, my husband & I hired another photographer in Michigan (our wedding was in North Carolina) to get additional bride and groom portraits. We took a bunch together and she was also able to take some individual photos of just us because our wedding photographer didn’t get any individual bridal or groom portraits on our wedding day. This unfortunately happens more than you would think, which is why hiring a photographer for portraits after your big day could be the perfect solution to fill in those gaps in your album. Plus, there were no day-of wedding nerves happening, so we were able to relax and have fun and that session ended up being my favorite “wedding” pictures we received.

It’s become a new trend to have bridal portraits taken before the wedding, but my personal recommendation is to wait until afterwards. You want your dress to be in PRISTINE condition when you walk down the aisle. There are too many variables and risks to wearing your dress beforehand. Even if your dress is dirty by the end of your wedding night, you likely wouldn’t notice in portraits unless there were serious stains. I recommend speaking with your portrait photographer beforehand if you’re worried about dirt stains on your train for your portrait session, as they may be able to edit them out.

If you feel like your wedding photographer didn’t quite get all the shots you were hoping for on your big day, or if you eloped and didn’t hire a photographer, grab your dress and hit me up! I love taking bridal portraits and would love to help you showcase and commemorate such an important life milestone.

West Michigan has soooo many gorgeous locations that would be the perfect backdrop for your bride and groom portraits. Let’s create something beautiful.
